Great Blue Herons are the tallest of the herons and live year round where there are wetlands, fresh or salt water, and are therefore a common site throughout North America. Most often solitary birds, herons exhibit stealth, grace, and patience as they stalk small fish in the shallows. Herons are powerful in flight and a deliberate slow hunter with a stalking stride that seems to tell everything else to stand aside.
